Barber Park map: where to park, launch and picnic

Barber Park is a tree-lined, roughly 150-acre riverside park at 4049 S. Eckert Rd., Boise, Idaho 83716, about 5–6 miles southeast of downtown in the Barber Valley. Its entrance sits at the Eckert Road bridge near Boise Avenue. This page is the “what’s where” one: where to drive in, where the fee lot is, where the put-in is, where to take children, where the restrooms are and when the gates shut — before you arrive.

🗺️ Barber Park at a glance

Address: 4049 S. Eckert Rd., Boise, Idaho 83716
Entrance: off Eckert Road at the bridge (first left into the park)
Fee parking: $7.00 per day in the summer float season, plus a $0.50 card fee
Opening time: the county publishes two different times — see the note below
Day use only: the main gate locks at sunset, but the exit gate stays usable

🚗 Getting in: the drive and the gate

Ada County Parks & Waterways, which manages the park, publishes a step-by-step route from the interstate. It is the most reliable way in:

🚗 Step-by-step navigation
  1. Take Exit 54 (Broadway) from Interstate 84.
  2. Continue north on Broadway for 1.7 miles to Boise Avenue.
  3. Turn right (east) onto Boise Avenue and follow it 3.6 miles to Eckert Road.
  4. Turn left (north) onto Eckert Road.
  5. Take the first left into Barber Park — the drive-in is only about 0.01 miles from the turn.

From downtown Boise it is roughly 6 miles via Warm Springs Avenue to Eckert Road. The park’s own directions page carries the same route with GPS coordinates if you want to load it into a phone.

When the gates shut (verified). Barber Park is day-use only. The main entrance gate locks at sunset, but the main exit gate stays usable so you can drive out and collect your vehicle afterwards. Inside the fee lot, the kiosk gate locks at 7:30 p.m., while that lot’s exit gate stays open until sunset. There is no re-entry without paying again: if you leave the lot and come back during the float season, use the drop-off area instead of the paid lot.

⚠️ Opening time: the county’s own pages disagree.
Ada County’s Barber Park page lists “Park Hours: 7:30 a.m. – Sunset (gates closed)”, while the county’s Float the Boise River page and the 2026 Floater Guide give 8 a.m. – Sunset. Both are official county publications. This page does not pick a winner — check the county’s current page before an early-morning visit, and treat the opening time as approximate. 🗺 The map: what’s where

The diagram below is a simple schematic — a labelling drawing, not a survey — showing how the main features sit together. It is deliberately not to scale, and it shows only features that official sources name. Use the table under it for the detail.

What’s where: the short version

Fee-parking field The main lot inside the entrance, beside the drive-in $7.00/day in float season plus a $0.50 card fee; kiosk 10:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. weekdays, 9:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. weekends and holidays

Picnic tables, BBQs and covered patio Throughout the park The county lists picnic tables and BBQs throughout the park, plus a covered patio for picnics
Education & Event Center In the park at 4049 S. Eckert Rd. Year-round rental venue — see the Event Center page
Restrooms Public restroom available; extra facilities in float season Position approximate — see the note below
Greenbelt paths Along the river, leaving the park in both directions Boise River Greenbelt access points near the park — see below
ℹ️ Restrooms — soft detail. The county’s Greenbelt page lists a public restroom open year-round at Barber Park, with a second set open during the float season in the snack shack. No public source pins their exact position or the snack-shack hours, so the map marks them as approximate and this page makes no winter-opening claim. (Flagged for fact-checking.)

🚗 Parking without a surprise

In the summer floating season, parking is $7.00 per vehicle per day, with a $0.50 convenience fee if you pay by card. The kiosk is open 10:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Outside the float season, parking is typically free — but the same day-use gate times still apply.

  • No re-entry without paying again. The ticket covers one entry. Unload passengers and gear at the drop-off area first if you plan to leave and return.
  • Leave before sunset. The main gate locks at sunset; the exit gate is left usable so vehicles still inside can leave, but the park is not an overnight stop.
  • Don’t park on nearby residential streets. The Bown Crossing and Harris Ranch neighbourhoods enforce parking permits year-round — parking on residential streets risks a fine or a tow. The parking guide covers the full strategy, including the shuttle-from-Ann-Morrison option.

✅ Practicalities on the ground

  • Pets must be leashed. Under the Ada County ordinance, all pets must be kept on a leash while in the park.
  • No glass on the river. Glass containers are prohibited on the Boise River; pack drinks in unbreakable containers. See the river regulations for the current rules.
  • No air stations any more. The park no longer provides air stations, so bring your own pump if you are inflating a tube or float.
  • Fishing. The Idaho Department of Fish & Game stocks fish in the Boise River.
  • Wildlife. More than 121 species of birds live here, from bald eagles to black-chinned hummingbirds. Fox, squirrels and garter snakes are common, and mule and whitetail deer, beaver, raccoon and mink are also seen. The wildlife guide has the full picture.

🗺️ Off the paved path: the Greenbelt

The Boise River Greenbelt runs through the park along the river, so Barber Park is a natural start or finish for a riverside walk or ride. The county’s Greenbelt page lists three access points tied to the park: the main entrance off Eckert Road, the Greenbelt itself off Eckert Road, and the Greenbelt off Park Center Blvd near Bown Crossing. (Flagged for fact-checking.) If you are mapping the river rather than the park, the interactive river map covers the float route, rest stops and mile markers.
